STUDENTS:
Online students must have strong self-discipline, motivation, and willingness to work independently. While students will have synchronous class time, they will need to structure their asynchronous time to keep up with the course work. |
PARENTS:
Parents are expected to serve as an in-person Learning Coach. By making sure your child is keeping up with their coursework and encouraging them to reach out for extra help when needed, you will provide the extra level of support that children need to be successful in a virtual setting. |
STUDENT SUCCESS COORDINATOR |
VIRTUAL TEACHER |
LOCAL SCHOOL COUNSELOR |
Each student will have a Student Success Coordinator (SSC) to meet weekly through synchronous web conferencing to discuss student progress, well-being, and performance across all courses. Developing a relationship with the student and serving as a student advocate by coordinating services and additional supports and interventions will help support student success. |
All BVP instructors are highly-qualified Maryland-certified teachers. Teachers will provide students with synchronous direct instruction, detailed feedback, and asynchronous tools to ensure that students can access and master the course standards. Teachers will also provide office hours to offer additional instructional time or individualized support and are accessible through message, phone, or web conferencing. |
All students participating in the BVP will be enrolled at a local school. Students will maintain contact with a school counselor who will ensure that all necessary requirements are met for graduation. Like the SSC, they will be able to arrange for additional supports and services that the student may need as well as monitor students physical and mental well-being. |
